☆ FIRST IMPRESSIONS ☆

VISUAL: Adorable, the kind of cute that inspires cuteness aggression, but you wouldn't automatically call him hot. He's average height (5'8") and borderline skinny, but what he has is muscle. He's got blonde hair that he takes a lot of pride in arranging, freckles, and stunningly pretty blue eyes that have a bit of purple in them.
AURAL: Energetic tenor, a smidge on the squeaky side if he's excited we're being unkind, a lot of bouncy, non-stop patter. Helpfully, there's an entire compilation video on Youtube.
OLFACTORY: Lime, cardamon, cedarwood, and bergamot. Like he just doused himself in Burberry Brit for Men.
DEMEANOUR: Like he can't stand still just as much as he can't shut up. He finds it hard to contain himself when he's happy and around friends, he wants to take up as much space as possible and just bask in their presence. He tries to minimize himself as much as possible when he's feeling like shit, head down and body slouched/curved. Either way, you get the sense that he's always striving - to be cool, to be quiet, to be the very best imitation of himself at all times.

Automatic writing

Entry 0: Divination Rules & Legend.

I'm giving him Divination, and I will absolutely make use of it for him and/or other characters. It's going to take the form of automatic writing, and, if he won't be present in the space when whatever part of the future or past happens/happened, he will only be able to write communication - verbal (so dialogue, recordings and other sounds) or physical (so things that have or will be read or seen in a chart, picture, or other visual representation).

If he was/will be there, he may sketch something he saw beyond what was in a physical communication. He won't be able to see through anyone else's eyes and record what was seen, nor what they or he felt, nor can he give any other detail (when and where this happens, whose world, etc). The act of automatic writing will put him into a trancelike state for the most part, and he won't recall how it all gotten written down, although the text will take different appearances for different sources and speakers.

If he knows a speaker from either in Etraya or from home, he will be able to identify which text belongs tothat speaker, but knowing 1 speaker will not allow him to identify the others unless someone is named. IE, if he knows one speaker is the Kool-Aide Man, and the Kool-Aide Man addresses someone as Toucan Sam, then he knows that the other type of writing is Toucan Sam.

Prompto's dialogue always takes the form of his own handwriting in his native language. Everything else looks like yeah, he could have been the one to write it, but it's not his own hand.

The number originally started 1-17; however, I've realized that I missed a few bits so I am sandwiching into the order without changing the original numbers by making them X.5s.

Dossier

Common-born classmate of the crown prince. Prompto forged a friendship with Noctis after a fateful encounter with Lady Lunafreya's lost dog brought them closer together, and the two have been inseparable ever since. In preparation for the long road trip ahead, he practiced handling firearms under the tutelage of Crownsguard veterans. The pauper to Noctis's prince, Prompto makes up for his lack of royal prestige or combat prowess with his upbeat personality, lifting his comrades' spirits when the going gets tough. He can almost always be found with his camera in hand, snapping shots and capturing memories of the journey.

Personality

Prompto Argentum is what happens when the left-out kid in grade school gets one shot at friendship. His home life is as empty as his early social life - his constantly busy parents leave him to fend for himself and don’t bother seeing him after big events. Once he succeeds in making a friend (who brings bonus friends), the connection, interaction, and care he finds with them mean the world to him, and, as a result, he’d do anything for his friends. That includes improving the majority of his personality to make himself a better friend for them.

It’s not that he’s fake or acts unnaturally, but Prompto’s always trying: to find the bright side, to make his friends laugh, to be a good person. His underlying personality is the same, but trying keeps everything cranked up to 11 because he’s not comfortable in his own skin.

He’s insecure about his place and feels he’s ordinary to the point of boring. He’s not noble, rich, strong, or smart, and he fails to see his good qualities, believing himself to be unworthy. Prompto’s afraid of when everyone realizes that the blond dude’s not on their level and ditches him. He keeps himself under constant pressure to remind everyone he’s fun and easy-going.

He’s learned to be a chatterbox, inserting himself into conversations, ribbing someone gently or complimenting enthusiastically. He doesn’t want to fade into the background and be the invisible kid he was. He wants to be noticed on his terms.

Prompto has a good sense of humor on display whenever and wherever possible. Puns and wordplay, sarcasm and fingerguns. He wants to be seen as a smooth-talking and always "on".

He’s not. His insecurity kicks in with unfamiliar people, those he thinks are better/cooler, etc. Then he falters and falls out of his routine, and reality shows through - still funny, stubborn and offbeat, but faltering and vulnerable.

He’s constantly restless, particularly when he’s in a position to be observed or judged. He drums his fingers on a table or on his leg, scuffs his feet, rubs his neck, or attempts to strike just the right cool pose.

He thinks too much when he thinks no one’s looking, but he keeps his bone-deep worries and insecurities wrapped up tight. If dragged into the light, Prompto apologizes for mentioning his hang-ups.

He doesn’t see it, but his kindness is why people want him in their life. Noctis didn't befriend him because Prompto worked out and ditched his glasses to have his movie makeover moment. Prompto was and is the only person who treated him like a normal person. Or because Prompto takes others into account and puts them first. He ran the car off the road to tend to an injured cub. This sometimes makes him the peacemaker of a group, as if his anxiety about his friends abandoning him also extends to anxiety about them fighting and costing him friends by proxy.

He’s also very determined. Overcoming shyness and losing weight are both difficult tasks, and he really worked hard. Running gave him confidence, and accomplishing the tasks he set afforded him some pride. It goes further than that, though; he’s downright dogged when it comes to not giving up hope that the four of them can make everything right again, somehow.

He's a shutterbug, borderline camera addict, with an eye for beautiful scenery and action shots. Including mid-battle selfies, which he gets away with because he's the ranged fighter and pretty nimble, so no one chews him out for being reckless. Much. The camera’s also a social prop, making him a part of whatever group he's with.

He flaunts his geek, singing chocobo songs, asking his buds to play video games, stealing their comics… Speaking of chocobos, he absolutely adores the birds and all animals. If it’s fluffy and cuddly, Prompto wants a pet.

As a final aside, Noctis is the only reason Prompto agreed to a camping road trip that morphed into a quest to save the world that features an alarming amount of cliffs and caves. He’s afraid of greater heights and confined spaces. He also hates bugs and dirt. Surprise! There’s a ton of those outdoors, too. Joy!

His training was compressed into a month, so he doesn't have as much practical training experience as he should, but he's a crackshot and great with machinery. He exclusively equips firearms (mainly revolvers) and machinery as weapons during the main game, but he is shown using Noctis' greatsword for one of their linked (more powerful than basic but still basic) attacks and later uses a mechanical sword (that he will not have access to as it's from a later point in his canon), so he's at least competent in very situational uses.

That said, he definitely should not be a melee fighter because defense and hand-to-hand... generally not that great. He's excellent at range, but too green to handle himself well in close combat and is gangly in his dodges and rolls.

As to "special abilities", the essence of it is:

Prompto can summon weapons and infinite ammo from the magical royal hammerspace (the Armiger), provided Noctis is alive out there somewhere. It's not explicit in canon that's how he gets infinite ammo, but it makes as much sense as anything for an explanation.
He can also wield spells that were prepared by Noctis and bottled, BUT this likely won't make an appearance in game because A. the energy nodes are obviously not available in Etraya and B. everyone knows that you don't equip Prompto with magic because he will fucking electrocute the melee (... the AI for party members is not great...).
He has a number of teamwork abilities & techniques, the latter use "tech points" which function similarly to MP, which the game also has, except they're built up and stored through other actions taken. The game only allows 3 tech points to be stored up at a time, so I'm listing all of them here as a means of showing that none of these will be able to appear very often, and most of the time, only 1 or 2 techniques would be used in a fight at all, because resource-constrained.
NOTE: I'm not going to list the teamwork abilties that are just "really big gunshot", "take lots of photos during a fight", or that are something like "can cause a lightning-based (electricity) damage-over-time by hitting someone with his machine weapon that he's overloaded". Those have practical causes. These are the ones where, functionally, it's magic as it doesn't use any consumables, gives traditionally magical FF effects, or cost tech points.
Scintilla (Ability) - When Prompto is badly injured, he can use this ability once per combat to inflict Stop, freezing an enemy in time for about 3 seconds, during which time they can't act.
Piercer (Technique - 1 tech point) - Causes the bullet to go through any and all enemies directly in his line of fire, which can cause them to be staggered and has a chance of breaking limbs.
Starshell (Technique - 1 tech point) - He can cause an area to light up for a brief period of time. Creatures within in the illuminated area may be affected by being threatened or enervated (a stat reduction). I would treat this as a wild animal would react like a deer in headlights and anything that was weak to light would either behave as the mods described or (if player-controlled) I'd let them decide how it happens.
Recoil (Technique - 2 tech points) - Causes machinery on a nearby enemy to overload and shock them.
Gravisphere (Technique - 2 tech points) - Fires an orb that pulls in nearby enemies to the orb and causes some damage while they are held there for a few seconds.
Trigger-Happy (Technique - 3 tech points) - Fires 2 consecutive barrages at a target, followed by a final high-damage shot. It has a higher chance of breaking limbs than Piercer.
THIS ONE IS A JOKE - I have been lovingly informed by others if I don't include his freckles as an ability, I will fail. They give him a +4 to Adorable and have a 20% chance of causing Squish His Face.

personality:

Prompto Argentum is what happens when the left-out kid in grade school gets one shot at friendship. His home life is as empty as his early social life - his constantly busy parents leave him to fend for himself and don’t bother seeing him after big events. Once he succeeds in making a friend (who brings bonus friends), the connection, interaction, and care he finds with them mean the world to him, and, as a result, he’d do anything for his friends. That includes improving the majority of his personality to make himself a better friend for them.

It’s not that he’s fake or acts unnaturally, but Prompto’s always trying: to find the bright side, to make his friends laugh, to be a good person. His underlying personality is the same, but trying keeps everything cranked up to 11 because he’s not comfortable in his own skin.

He’s insecure about his place and feels he’s ordinary to the point of boring. He’s not noble, rich, strong, or smart, and he fails to see his good qualities, believing himself to be unworthy. Prompto’s afraid of when everyone realizes that the blond dude’s not on their level and ditches him. He keeps himself under constant pressure to remind everyone he’s fun and easy-going.

He’s learned to be a chatterbox, inserting himself into conversations, ribbing someone gently or complimenting enthusiastically. He doesn’t want to fade into the background and be the invisible kid he was. He wants to be noticed on his terms.

Prompto has a good sense of humor on display whenever and wherever possible. Puns and wordplay, sarcasm and fingerguns. He wants to be seen as a smooth-talking and always "on".

He’s not. His insecurity kicks in with unfamiliar people, those he thinks are better/cooler, etc. Then he falters and falls out of his routine, and reality shows through - still funny, stubborn and offbeat, but faltering and vulnerable.

He’s constantly restless, particularly when he’s in a position to be observed or judged. He drums his fingers on a table or on his leg, scuffs his feet, rubs his neck, or attempts to strike just the right cool pose.

He thinks too much when he thinks no one’s looking, but he keeps his bone-deep worries and insecurities wrapped up tight. If dragged into the light, Prompto apologizes for mentioning his hang-ups.

He doesn’t see it, but his kindness is why people want him in their life. Noctis didn't befriend him because Prompto worked out and ditched his glasses to have his movie makeover moment. Prompto was and is the only person who treated him like a normal person. Or because Prompto takes others into account and puts them first. He ran the car off the road to tend to an injured cub. This sometimes makes him the peacemaker of a group, as if his anxiety about his friends abandoning him also extends to anxiety about them fighting and costing him friends by proxy.

He’s also very determined. Overcoming shyness and losing weight are both difficult tasks, and he really worked hard. Running gave him confidence, and accomplishing the tasks he set afforded him some pride. It goes further than that, though; he’s downright dogged when it comes to not giving up hope that the four of them can make everything right again, somehow.

He's a shutterbug, borderline camera addict, with an eye for beautiful scenery and action shots. Including mid-battle selfies, which he gets away with because he's the ranged fighter and pretty nimble, so no one chews him out for being reckless. Much. The camera’s also a social prop, making him a part of whatever group he's with.

He flaunts his geek, singing chocobo songs, asking his buds to play video games, stealing their comics… Speaking of chocobos, he absolutely adores the birds and all animals. If it’s fluffy and cuddly, Prompto wants a pet.

As a final aside, Noctis is the only reason Prompto agreed to a camping road trip that morphed into a quest to save the world that features an alarming amount of cliffs and caves. He’s afraid of greater heights and confined spaces. He also hates bugs and dirt. Surprise! There’s a ton of those outdoors, too. Joy!
